What would be a good substitute for Iran, Iraq, Syria infant

Hello,

I would like to make up some infantry for the following armies for the 60's - 80's and not sure what to use. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, etc....

I am going to use Vietnam US infnatry for early IDF forces (of course the IDF infantry pack for the modern), but not sure what to use for the arab forces.

The Mujadienn (Spelling) would be fine for some of the forces but I am sure they wore uniforms as well.

Any body have some suggestions?

At this scale I would think you could use the modern Soviet infantry.

If I am correct the Egyptian Army wore a tan color while the Syrian had a OD so the color difference would set apart the figures. But even if I am wrong about the colors both armies used AKs and the Russian helmet so I don't think any difference between the figures and real world would be glaring.

Syrians used a OD would that mean a genaerl paint job for there tanks WASN'T a desert color? Or is it just the infantry?

Syrian tanks were Soviet Green with a sand and grey camo.
Egyptian tanks were tan with dark brown camo.
The GHQ IDF infantry do fine for 70-80 IDF.

I used Soviet modern infantry for Egyptians, Syrians and Iraqi. Did not do Iran yet. The Syrians I painted a mix of olive green and brighter green I see pictures of them in during the late 60's 70's. Egyptians in sand and Iraquis in a drab color. For Israeli's during 67-73 I used Vietnam US. Also some WWII US and British in digger hats and British Paras for 67. I hope to do Jordan soon using WWII British.

I used modern Soviet infantry for my '73 syrians as well, painted in a pale olive green (as in "Arab armies of the middle east wars 1948-1973 - Osprey publishing).

As for AFV's and soft vehicles, i painted them russian green, with splashes/stripes of light desert yellow. Some AFVs were even left green, as delivered from the Soviets.

I used modern GHQ israelies for '73 IDF (same helmets and webbing), even if they carry M16.

If they are fighting American forces just get some dead figures. It will save you panting time.

I am using Modern Russian infantry for Iran's regular army and the Mujahedeen for the Pasdoran in the Iran/Iraq war
