During our recent GHQ rules governed games I have uncovered a question. Why is Italian artillery not allowed indirect fire, ...at least that's what is indicated by the symbol next to all Italian artillery on page 38 of the rules set?
In fact I would like to know what the (*) means other than that "Bicycle troops may move either at a Foot rate of 3" or a wheeled rate of 3" when riding", ...rather confusing, but ignored in either case since if that is what was really meant why would they have forward observers?

It's a typo. The printers substituted an asterisk for the double-barred whatchamacallit. If you go back to page 35 you'll see the same mistake for the rocket artillery. The WW2 rulebook is full of stuff like this. One of the hazards of getting this kind of job done offshore I guess.
